Pharmaceutical analysis is a core department which is responsible for imparting knowledge in the field of modern instrumental techniques for B.Pharm, Pharm. D and all branches of M.Pharm in the Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance at Vaageswari College of Pharmacy. It involves basic research in identity, purity, content and stability of starting materials, excipients and Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). Impurities usually stem from the synthesis of the active ingredients; they are usually monitored according to the ICH guidelines and the pharmacopoeia standards. The department is actively involved in the Analytical method development and their Validation of Synthetic and Natural drugs, Pharmacokinetic studies, TDM studies, Stability studies, Elucidation of newly synthesized drugs by using conventional instruments like Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer,Turbidimetry & Nephelometry, Electrophoresis, Fluorometry, Conductivity meter, KF titration and pH meter. Several advanced instruments like FT-IR Spectroscopy, UV-Visible and HPLC. The Department of Pharmaceutical analysis has the modern equipments with good infrastructure facilities.

This course allows you to:
  • Gain knowledge and practical skills to operate commonly used analytical laboratory instruments
  • Become familiar with automated approaches to analysis and process analytical technology
  • Apply good experimental design techniques and use statistical methods for data evaluation
  • Develop your validated analysis methods for determining chemical compounds and elements in a range of samples
  • Understand the principles and practice of laboratory quality system
  • Interpret FTIR, mass spectra and nuclear magnetic resonance data

The Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance was established in the year 2011 for the first time to start PG Programme in Pharmaceutical Analysis in Vaageswari College of Pharmacy. Analysis of Drugs and Pharmaceutical is the backbone of research and development in pharmaceutical industry. Quality Teaching, high standard of Research and Collaborative projects are the main areas of this department.

Qualified, dedicated faculty members of this department are always keen to show their talents by way of technical lectures, innovations in teaching and tutorials for making skilled, better and effective practical knowledgeable Pharmaceutical Analytical Techniques in order to build up good citizens in future. We also invite some leading scientists from the Pharmaceutical Industries and eminent institutions such as IICT, NIPER, UoH and IAS for the benefit of our students

The department of Pharmaceutical Analysis is expertise in research areas such as Multi-component drug analysis, Metabolic studies, Bioanalytical and Bioavailability studies, Accelerated stability studies, biomarkers monitoring, isolation and characterization of phytopharmaceuticals. Quality control and quality assurance and Therapeutic drug monitoring studies. The department has made of significant contribution to the research field in terms of research publication and collaborative project works.

Research activities:.

The department is involved in the diversified activities, including active involvement in research projects. The key areas of research are:.

* Physico-chemical characterization of new chemical entities
* Forced degradation (stress testing) and stability kinetics studies
* Preformualtion studies
* Validated analytical method development including stability-indicating assays
* Accelerated stability testing
* Impurity profiling of drug substances
* Preparation of degradation product standards & their spectroscopic analysis.

Team work, dedication and responsibility are the ultimate strength of the department. Consultancy, Sponsored Research projects from various industries with in the country and abroad, grants from the national bodies like AICTE, CSIR, ICMR, DST, etc., are the priority of the department. Success rate in terms of student employment is very high among the private institutions in India. The Department is having MOU with national and international industries and universities. Continuing education programmes including US Fulbright scheme and AICTE sponsored QIP programmes for young teachers and students are also taking care by this department. As a result, the department achieved a centre of Pharmaceutical production, Novel dosage from designing and Government approved Drug Testing laboratory.
